The name Eximo (free) is linked to a particularity that makes it unique. Expand your horizons and pick up Facundo Eximo for your next after-hours sipping liquor. It is a blend of rums aged for 10 years in oak barrels. The finish is dry and spiced, flaunting dried orange peel and a light sherried note. Eximo finishes with a deep and pleasant sweetness with spice that bites back a bit and a deep character that begs for another sip.įacundo Eximo has found itself comfortably in my home bar right next to some of my favorite Whiskys and it is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, which makes perfect sense it has been barrel aged for over a decade, just the same as my other favorite barrel aged drinks. 325 / 750ml 4.5 from 6 User Ratings 95 / 100 from 2 Critic Reviews Critic tasting note: 'Nut-brown in the glass, this conveys deep toffee, espresso and fudge notes, plus a heady sprinkling of baking spice. The palate is deep, complex, and heavy with a sweet spiciness with cinnamon coming to the forefront accented by the nutmeg found in the nose and vanilla notes lingering on the surface. Eximo’s nose is highly reminiscent of top quality cognac with a rich spiciness of nutmeg notes and hints of barrel char. I had the new Facundo Eximo on the rocks and it immediately instigated a flood of experiences that I only have with the best of the Whisky world. Until I was introduced to Facundo Eximo I had rarely enjoyed Rum as a pure sipping liquor, but now I am sold on its versatile and satisfying qualities. I am a fan of Rum but I usually just have it as part of a crafted cocktail if it is great or as a simple mixed drink if it is of lower or mid range quality. I love Whisky it is my go to liquor and nothing beats a top shelf Whisky neat or on the rocks after a long day at work. Having bacon and egg as ingredients, it’s reminiscent of breakfast, but since it’s egg salad, it feels more like lunch - a unique and delightful combination. But Zoccoli’s did, and they created a great sandwich, the BELT ($6.75) with bacon, egg salad, lettuce, and tomato on toasted wheat bread. Some folks might say don’t mess with a classic like the BLT. There’s also a without-ham version available for 25 cents less.ħ02 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz 5. The Buttery’s delectable Torta ($8) has the bakery and café using Saag’s black forest ham, homemade refried black beans, tomatoes, marinated red onions, pickled jalapeños, avocado, and two Mexican cheeses. Tortas are Mexican sandwiches filled with toppings traditionally found on tacos and burritos, with the main difference being the ingredients are inside a roll instead of a tortilla. Lots of items rotate, but mainstays include this delicious sandwich ($8.75) featuring a generous portion of chicken salad made from locally raised chickens, avocado, Happy Boy Farms greens, and turmeric pickled onions made on-site, all placed inside rustic sourdough-wheat-rye bread from Companion Bakeshop.ġ25 Beach St., Santa Cruz 4. But the sandwiches are divine, and my personal favorite is the Caprese sandwich ($7). Since Café Iveta is an offshoot of a wholesale baked goods company, you would think folks would mostly flock to the Westside Santa Cruz bakery/cafe for pastries like their renowned scones. My husband and I also love the Sausage sandwich, so we often order one of each and split them for the best of both worlds!ġ116 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz 2. The meatballs themselves are flavorful and hearty, and they’re smothered in the restaurant’s Sunday Gravy: rich tomato-based sauce simmered for hours with ground pork, ground beef, Italian sausage, and country spareribs. Many people flock to the family-run Italian restaurant for its great pasta offerings, but it also has very satisfying sandwiches including Meatball ($8.95), served on a Ciabatta roll with provolone cheese. I can’t wait to hear about a few “must-try” sandwiches that I have never eaten! 1. So I’ve picked 10 scrumptious sandwiches – well actually, nine, because I’d like you, dear readers, to select the 10th one! You can do this by posting a comment that mentions a sandwich you love from somewhere in Santa Cruz County, that didn’t make it on the list. There are so many terrific sandwiches in Santa Cruz County, it’s hard to pick a favorite. The fall special is only available through November 23, but we’re predicting Papa John’s will bring it back next year because it already has fan videos like this one posted by Eater.Photo: Hoisin Pork Sandwich from Charlie Hong Kong In a nod to the Frito Chili Pie, the Papa John’s pizza underneath contains beef, chili sauce, tomatoes, onion, and cheese. The mashup: How do you improve a pizza? Sprinkle Fritos on it, duh. The simplicity of this is nothing short of beautiful. (Photo: Domino’s Pizza India) Pizza + Fritos = Fritos Chili Pizza The subwich is the same size as a pizza slice, but way taller-there’s no way you’d be able to get all the layers in a single bite, a fundamental design flaw for a sandwich. Honestly this just seems difficult to eat. The “subwich” contains either a breaded chicken patty or a breaded vegetarian patty (chili jalapeno three bean, to be precise), plus sliced bell peppers and a creamy pepper relish. Beef-free Burger King and now this from Domino’s: A patty sandwiched between two slices of pizza dough. The mashup: Fast food in India is different, guys. It’s a regular fixture on the menu at Epic Deli in Johnsburg, Illinois, whose sandwiches are so beloved that people-I-now-want-to-be-friends-with ask them to cater their weddings. It’s a ham-and-cheese on white bread, which is then tempura battered, Dorito crumbed, and fried. Even more awesome: It comes with a side of ghost pepper ranch dipping sauce. The mashup: This sandwich is named after the bully from the Friday film trilogy, but to us it sounds more like a lover than a fighter. Doug Ford is allowing private clinics to profit by performing these essential health procedures, which is not a solution to our health care crisis. “This move runs counter to the principles of our public health care system. Sharleen Stewart, President, SEIU Healthcare Frontline health care workers and their unions were not consulted, and we call on the Health Minister to shelf the PC privatization plan until a human resource risk assessment is undertaken and made public.” The ultimate price for Premier Ford’s American-style scheme will be paid by the people of Ontario with a more severe staffing crisis and out-of-pocket bills. “Private profits are in direct conflict with low-cost and access to public care. Michael Hurley, President, Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU/CUPE) Fierce resistance from both will be forthcoming.” For that, opposition by the hospital workforce and the people of Ontario is needed. User fees, higher costs, higher death rates and the loss of hospital staff won’t impede this government’s commitment to monetize surgeries. “Despite denying any support for hospital privatization during the last election, the Ford government is slashing public hospital budgets as it aggressively funds for-profit surgical centres. Rather than divert funding from public hospital care to privatized clinics, the government must invest in our cherished public healthcare system, implement a substantive public hospital staffing retention program, and fund its public hospitals at least at the rate of the Canadian hospital average to deal with population growth, ageing and inflationary pressures. With rising living costs and inflation, Ontarians need investment in publicly-delivered healthcare, not a model that will use public funds to generate private profits while decreasing access for all. Death rates and costs are higher in for-profit surgical centres.įor-profit clinics, long-term care homes and nursing agencies have already cost Ontarians enormously and have seriously worsened the staffing shortage in our public system. History shows that for-profit clinics siphon staff from public hospitals, focus their business on providing services for patients with the least-complex medical needs to maximize profits, and leave public hospitals to care for patients with multiple, severe – and expensive-to-treat – conditions. Funding private clinics will further damage the ability of Ontario’s public hospitals to provide high-quality care and make it even more challenging to retain front-line staff. They say that since coming to office, this government has implemented policies to demoralize healthcare workers, worsen the staffing shortage and cause burnout through heavy workloads and low wages. Patients will wait even longer for healthcare under this scheme and should not be misled into believing they will not pay out of pocket. The unions – CUPE/OCHU, Ontario Nurses’ Association, OPSEU/SEFPO, SEIU Healthcare, and Unifor – say that this move will further starve our public healthcare system of funding and divert front-line staff to enrich private shareholders and diminish access to publicly-delivered healthcare. Five major Ontario health care unions are calling on the Ford government to not move forward with its plan to siphon provincial funding from public hospital care and hand it to private, for-profit surgical clinics, a risky venture that will cost Ontarians dearly and damage access to public care. |
